Let’s do something different and bring about real...
My friend Glyn reminded me of this saying tonight: ‘The definition of insanity is to do the same thing and expect a different result.’
With the mayoral elections, we might say that about those who expect the city to soar to greatness while voting for the same-old élites.
Wellington deserves free wifi and strong tech and creative sectors. We deserve to own our own water and have more transparent...

Wife dials 111 after hubby uses toilet but not the... →
I thought some of the 911 stories coming out of the States were ridiculous enough, but I think we now take the cake!

I like the comments →
Let’s hope the three-to-one in support of me is representative of all of Wellington! And even the guy who doesn’t support me seems polite, which is a good sign, too.

Even if I didn’t make the list, I would recommend Cindy King’s top 45 cross-cultural and international bloggers to follow in 2010. I’m going to begin following some of these myself.

Apple and Red Cross accepting Haiti donations via... →
mrgan:
Apple and the Red Cross worked together to create a frictionless way to donate to the Haiti relief effort through iTunes. Click the link (or hit the iTunes Store on your own) and pick your amount—that’s it.

Naches (Yiddish): the glow of proud pleasure that only a child can give to its parents.
Schadenfreude (German): the feeling you experience when...

Eight-year-old boy can’t get his name off US... →
suburbantragic:
81,793 travelers have submitted formal requests demanding their names be taken off the watch list; more than 25,000 of their cases are still pending. Mario Labbé, a Canadian record-company executive, was stopped so many times since 9/11 he finally got fed up and just changed his name. Now they don’t bother him anymore! The system works! “We can’t just throw a bunch of names on...

How the Internet is leading toward “digital Maoism” and the loss of individuality
It’s not every day I agree wholeheartedly with something in the Murdoch Press. I’ve been saying stuff like this for years, without being as smart as Lanier.

Dodgy US headline: ‘Most Americans would trim... →
azspot:
The survey found 51 percent of Americans agreeing that “it is necessary to give up some civil liberties in order to make the country safe from terrorism.”
Interesting headline Does 51 per cent really qualify as ‘most’? Margin of error in the survey: 2·68 per cent. I’d say the country was divided.
