Deacon I know people go on about Dick, Mary, Rosie, Morey and even Carl when it comes to The Dick Van Dyke Show, but one of my favourites was Richard Deacon. He was as funny as the others with his outraged dignity. In terms of screen time, surely he and Larry Mathers had roughly the same? I was disappointed to see him not shown among the stars when the Revisited episode opened (and it can’t be to do with the fact that he is dead, as Morey Amsterdam was given a credit).
Why is the Dick Van Dyke Show on so many TV Guide magazine covers, you ask?
Because America f***ing loves Dick Van Dyke.
You better believe it! ;]

The Petries They made the 1960s very watchable.

Mary Tyler Moore and Dick Van Dyke.
Camelot I know most people love Dick in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Mary Poppins, but I am still a big fan of The Dick Van Dyke Show after all these years.
“Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore appear together for the first time on national television since the Dick Van Dyke Show left the air in 1965. They came together on the Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson March 21 to announce they would again play the “Petries” from the old show during two skits on Mary’s new show”
On Johnny I imagine they are referring to the skits in The Mary Tyler Moore Hour in 1979.
The Dick van Dyke Show I don’t care what decade it is: the fictional Petrie household in New Rochelle still seems to be the place to hang out in.
