Our new “not found” page The first change to Lucire’s 404 (page not found) page since 2007 (below). We’re helping Child Focus and Missing Children Europe by posting images of missing people there instead. “Average Faces From Around The World”
Finding the average face of people across the world was a tough job but someone had to do it. This guy basically takes a thousands and thousands images of everyday people from any city and the software makes an ‘average’ of the people, giving one final portrait. Take a look at this amazing project called “World of Facial Averages.”

The Future Is Oursvia io9:
Filmmaker Michael Marantz has just released The Future is Ours, a rousing two-minute tribute to the people and companies pushing humanity forward. Full screen, HD, headphones if you’ve got ‘em. Fair warning: this will, at a minimum, give you chills — but don’t be surprised if you feel your eyes start to well up.

Appropriate portmanteau: ‘Chort’ (Chilling + Short)
The future is ours Chilling? No. Just confirmation that others and I are on the right path.

A friend who was a waiter told me that his customers simply treated everyone nicely in the wake of the disaster. A tragedy of this scale meant a coffee that took an extra minute to arrive was not the end of the world …Yet the aftermath was not always pleasant … It took only two weeks for my waiter friend to encounter the same old rudeness. His customers went back to self-importance, forgetting that we were in this game of life together. Never mind that people were hurting, or that Mayor Giuliani was attending funeral FDNY services with empty coffins in the very same city: where is my goddamn coffee?
There’s always some asshole reminding us that human evolution is a very slow process.
All we say to America is, ‘Be true to what you said on paper.’ If I lived in China or even Russia, or any totalitarian country, maybe I could understand the denial of certain basic First Amendment privileges, because they hadn’t committed themselves to that over there. But somewhere I read of the freedom of assembly. Somewhere I read of the freedom of speech. Somewhere I read of the freedom of [the] press. Somewhere I read that the greatness of America is the right to protest for right.
Just a number Quite a clever little program on the BBC website, and rather humbling.
Income disparity Being fourth on this table is nothing to be proud of.

Seven billion in one place This is incredible, too. Anyone else think of those domed cities in science fiction movies containing the world’s remaining population?
